What do you want to be Northwestern High School seniors? — Kokomo, Indiana

I have been waiting to share these with the 2016 seniors from Northwestern High School! Back in the fall when we shot their yearbook portraits I asked each senior the following question. “What do you want to be?” I didn’t explain or offer any advice as to how to answer, so needless to say we got a variety of answers. Tomorrow morning you will graduate from Northwestern High School and enter the next stage of your lives, so I hope that you become what you want to be and are able to follow all your dreams! I wish you all the best and congratulations!!

Lightning Photography – Safety vs. getting the shot

I am sure that some people are thinking that I wish I could have had a bride and groom or a senior to be able to shoot with the above lighting image that I captured the other night!!  No…as a matter of fact I actually don’t.  One thing that I won’t do is put my clients in a possible path of harms way.  I am not saying that photographers that are documenting dangerous situations as a news source are in the wrong as this is totally different.  I have seen a few lighting or tornado shots recently that were shot with a bride and groom posing in front of the actual storm front.  I would hope that professional photographers would realize that our clients trust us, so to put them in this situation is totally irresponsible in my opinion.  I am sure there will be some that would argue that if they “want” to do this and it is their idea then that makes it ok.  That is an argument, but do you really want to be take a chance of being “the photographer who shot the lightning shot that struck them as they were holding their metal umbrella?”  I didn’t think so…but yet I am pretty sure that this will continue.  I am no longer surprised now when I see people taking selfies next to the bikes as they are flying by on the Tour de France without realizing that their stupidity to get the shot is not only putting them in danger but more importantly the cyclists that are not expecting these irresponsible individuals doing this on a curve on the course.  Here is a good example if you haven’t seen something like this yet.

I realize that I am putting myself at risk when I shoot storms and lightning.  Don’t think that I am not aware of the danger that I am up against.  However that is my choice and I am only putting myself in this situation.  So I think this comes down to respect.  Well, maybe we should add common sense to respect.  So I guess I am a little guilty as well because there are times when I am standing out shooting that it dawns on me that I am doing this for what?  A picture…but it is also a picture that no one else will ever take…

2014 Hopebridge T-ball League at UCT in Kokomo – Summer Baseball Sports League Pictures

We kicked off the 5th year of the Hopebridge Foundation t-ball league this year out at UCT Park with almost 50 players!  It is always great to see the returning players as well as the new faces that are trying out their baseball skills for the first time.  There were several very close games with all kinds of game deciding plays at the plate.  If you were able to attend any of the games you probably enjoyed Tyler Moore’s play by play action.  The weather this year was perfect for the games.  Outside of one

I am very thankful to be a part of such a great group of kids, parents and volunteers to make this league happen every summer.  We are also very thankful to all the league sponsors for their generosity as well!

I think the thing that I love about this league the most is that they are out there playing baseball for all the right reasons.  It is great to watch these kids play without screaming coaches, crazy parents getting mad because their kid isn’t playing “where they should be” on the field, worrying about the scoreboard being right or players getting mad or crying.  They are simply having fun playing a game. I love when I see these children having fun and seeing their parents having fun watching them play.  It is too bad that more leagues can’t have the same vision and priorities that this one does.

I have included a link to a gallery of the action shots from their games with a few of them below.  Thanks again to everyone for having me as a part of your league! 🙂

There are two folders in the following link.  One is for printing with the print release and the other is for online sharing.  These have been resized, sharpened and have my logo on them.  I would appreciate it if you would use these if you are going to put them on Facebook, Instagram, etc.  Thanks!
