Dustin and Katie’s Wedding…

Kokomo, IN – Dustin and Katie were married at the First Baptist Church with their reception following at the Kokomo Event Center.  We went to the Sieberling Mansion on the way to the reception.

I was so happy to be able to shoot this wedding for Katie and Dustin.  I have known Katie for many years.  She used to play on my tennis team when I coached, and then over one summer she was our babysitter for our boys.  So I loved being able to see such an important event in both of their lives.

Katie and Dustin have been together for about seven years.  Being high school sweetheats is always special to me because I know from experience what that is like.  My wife and I were boyfriend-girlfriend in middle school and beyond that.  So it is always special when people pretty much know each other like the back of their hand.  However, I do think they were still a little nervous. 🙂

We had some excitement on our way to the reception.  We stopped off at the Mansion to shoot some more of the bridal party and of Katie and Dustin.  But as soon as we got out of the cars and under the awning it started to rain.  I mean literally it was raining sheets with 30mph winds.  There were tornado warnings, but they were farther down south.  I guess that wasn’t something we didn’t expect to happen this time of the year.

The reception was awesome, as it was catered by Rozzi’s with the sounds from X-Sight Music.  I always know whenever that combination is together for a reception that people are going to be worry-free and will enjoy themselves.  Karen Peelle finished off the details of the day with her flowers.  I always love working with these people as I know how much they care about their service to the bride and groom and their wedding day.

After the ceremony Katie and Dustin walked through a candle light journey.  This and the next shot are both reasons for getting the Canon 5D Mark II.  I shot this at f1.4, 1/30th of a second at ISO 1600.

On to the reception…

Katie’s dad gave such a heartfelt speech to the couple.  The perspective of a father talking about his daughter getting married always just makes me think of how quickly time passes.  But I always enjoy the groom getting roasted a little from his new father-in-law… 🙂

With all this talk about how great the new Canon 5D Mark II is (and they are right)…I still want to give some major credit to the old 5D as well.  This was shot at f1.4, 1/40 of a second at ISO 800.  So don’t go throwing away your old ones just yet. 🙂

I looooove this shot!!  This dance probably made her year!!
